» Divine Family: {mother & father} Uncertain. Some versions list him as a child of Mab, others as a son of Oberon and Titania, and still others as the creation of the Devil Himself. Whatever the case may be, Puck isn't telling; {spouse} N/A; {siblings} in some versions, Oberon, possibly other trickster fae; {children} none
» Mythology: Officially speaking, the term “puck” refers to any number of a specific class of faerie, with Puck being foremost among them. Calling him "Puck" is really no different than just calling him "Fairy" or "Hobgoblin": referring to him by what he is rather than who he is, necessarily. These faeries, also known as púca (also pooka, phooka, phouka, phooca or púka, among other languages) were mischievous creatures of Irish origin, similar to brownies, and known shapechangers, sometimes appearing in the forms of black horses, goats or rabbits, possibly bearing chains. The term “hobgoblin” is also interchangeable with “puck,” and Puck himself sometimes is referred to as such. His other, more euphemistic nickname, “Robin Goodfellow,” referred obliquely to his hobgoblin nature, and was also used to refer to the Devil, hinting at his sometimes wicked behavior.
Puck and his fellow púca could be benevolent and malicious by turns. In a good mood, or if he particularly liked the owners of a house he was visiting, Puck would sometimes take care of various menial tasks, such as mending clothes, carding wool, churning butter, or cleaning the hearth. The best way to repay him for these little kindnesses was by setting out offerings of milk or cream, bread and honey, or bits of grain or fruits from the harvests. If bored or in a bad mood, however, he might undo a day's work, rip holes in clothing, cause butter to spoil in the churn, or steal small objects and baubles, for example. Other pranks he enjoyed included, but were not limited to, causing night-terrors, leading travelers astray with floating lights, frightening young maidens or stealing kisses from them in the dark, and, on occasion, swapping changelings for human children to act as servants or playthings for the lords and ladies of the faerie realm. Being a nocturnal creature, the vast majority of Puck's actions were done at night, preferably under the light of a full moon. The one day of the year when Puck and his brethren could be expected to act civilly was November 1st, All Saints' Day, or, in some areas, referred to as the “puka's day.”
Spending as much time around humans as he did, and being one of the oldest members of the faerie realm, Puck was often able to resist and bypass many of the traditional methods for warding off faeries, such as circles of salt, horseshoes above doors, running water, ash berries, the ringing of church bells and cold iron. It wasn't that he was entirely immune to such measures, per se, but he was able to tolerate them better than most of his brethren due to countless years of repeated exposure.
In the faerie realm, Puck served as the jester of the Unseelie court, and also as the emissary for Lord Oberon (and, by extension, Titania) of the Seelie court. It was not uncommon for Puck to be the go-between of the two courts. However, his ultimate loyalty above all others, if he could be said to have loyalty to anyone, was to Queen Mab. Her commands superseded those of anyone else. On occasion, she would summon Puck to her chambers as a lover, and while he did not dare entertain any notions of there being actual love between them, he did enjoy having her favor more often than any other member of the court. In return, he provided his finest service.

» Current Name: Owen Robinson
» Birthdate: 06/23/1991 (totally made-up)
» Height: 6'0” (usually)
» Distinguishing Marks: None that are permanent.
» Family: {mother & father} Jack and Elaine Robinson (both fictional); {marital status/spouse} single, N/A; {siblings} none; {children} none; {pets} none
» Occupation: Personal Assistant
» Currently Residing In: Chicago, IL
» Ability: Shapeshifting. He can alter some aspects of his appearance (age, hair color, eye color, voice range, scars and marks, etc.) within a certain range of human normalcy—for instance, he can only appear as a Caucasian male with natural human hair colors, but can look anywhere from ghostly pale to deeply tanned, and at most he can appear to be up to fifteen years older than his “given” age. Otherwise, he is limited to taking the form of a black stallion. He possesses a silver tongue and is very good at planting ideas in the minds of others or convincing other people to take a certain point of view. As a “drudging” fae, he also can complete menial tasks in half the time it would require for a normal person.
» History: Puck is an unusual exception to the general rule of godlings reborn as humans, as he has never actually been reincarnated.
Having spent centuries in close contact with humans, at most only very thinly separated from their world by the Veil, he has successfully managed to remain active in human consciousness and kept their faith in him. Supported by human belief, the magic of his fellow púca, and his own cleverness, he had been able to escape being pulled into the cycle of reincarnation faced by the other godlings. But this changed when some of the more vicious and greedy members of the Unseelie court decided to try and steal the children of the godlings, immortal and otherwise, one Midsummer's Eve. Puck disagreed with the idea and tried to stop the plot, only to be imprisoned by the other fae for his efforts. He would later be rescued along with the godling children. Despite Puck's good intentions, however, a furious Gaia decided that all of the Unseelie were to be punished for their interference. Any that left the protection of the faerie realm to meddle in the human world would have their immortality forcibly removed and would not be allowed to return to the other side of the Veil. Unfortunately for him, this included Puck as well. The moment he stepped out of the faerie realm, he became a mortal human man, with only a fraction of his former powers left to him.
Mab took him under her proverbial wing and, with the help of some of their fellow godlings, helped him adapt and settle into human life, providing him with, among other things, a (forged) birth certificate, Social Security number, a place to live, and a job as her personal assistant as he learns to navigate his new existence.
» Personality: More than anything else in the world, Puck loves to have fun. Playful and mischievous, he is especially fond of pranks and practical jokes, but will gleefully do anything for a laugh. When in doubt, he will always try to appeal to the humorous side of things. The irreverent and cheeky Puck (there's a reason you'd never see him spend much time in a church aside from avoiding the ringing of the bells) believes that anything can be funny in the right light and that no one is too high and mighty to be the subject of a joke.
He is commonly described as being both clever and sweet, and his behavior usually reflects this, especially in the presence of his fellow fae. He knows a bad idea when he sees one, and will generally do whatever he can to avoid letting it happen (unless he's in an I-told-you-so mood), but even he isn't immune to making mistakes. Rather than trying to correct an error immediately, however, the ever-curious Puck will usually allow it to play out, just to see what will happen. Once the fallout hits the proverbial fan, then he goes to work at cleaning up whatever mess he's made, soothing hurt feelings and smoothing ruffled feathers. It can be difficult to stay mad at him for very long.
Puck is very bright, and that often translates to him becoming easily bored. Idle hands are the devil's workshop, as they say, and the devil has never found a more productive one than Puck's. Although he generally doesn't intend to do any real harm, he can become uncaring, callous and even spiteful with the things he does, deliberately trying to scare or upset someone, just to provoke a reaction. He is definitely not above messing with someone or something just because he can. It can be hard to tell when Puck is genuinely upset by something, and he'll usually hide his more negative feelings behind his jester's mask, but an angry Puck can truly be downright malicious and will deliberately aim to hit 'em where it hurts. When Puck makes a threat, even a veiled one, it should never be written off as a joke. His child-like (and, frequently, childish) behavior can make it easy to forget that Puck is actually very, very old even by faerie standards, and he has learned a lot of things over the centuries. When Puck gets serious, upset or scared, you know something bad is happening.
Obedience is an interesting concept with Puck. He does know his place, and his ambition is limited to planning capers that are bigger and better than the last, but that doesn't mean he'll just let someone order him around. When asked or told to do something, Puck will nearly always follow the letter of the law, but not necessarily the spirit. Ask him a question, and good luck getting a straight answer. He is a silver-tongued master of double-talk, double-entendres, innuendo, and if there's a loophole to exploit, you can bet Puck will find it and make the most of it, especially if it means he can get himself out of trouble doing so. It's not that he's a liar, but he does have ways of manipulating the truth to suit his purposes. The only person who could be said to have any real measure of control over Puck is Mab herself.
Relationship-wise, Puck has never been one for striking up a romance—at least, not for himself. Sure, he might steal a kiss from the unsuspecting (or cop a feel, if he's feeling particularly daring), but the intent there is for shock value and amusement, not because he has any actual romantic or sexual interest. He's not a virgin, however. Starting when he was young, Mab took advantage of her authority over Puck by sexually exploiting him. Unable to refuse the queen's summons, Puck had no choice but to come to her bed or risk falling out of her favor and losing his place among the Unseelie. Although Mab called for him infrequently, it remained an ongoing dynamic as a reminder to him that, ultimately, he belonged to her whether he liked it or not. It is likely because of this that he has never chosen to seek out other partners, nor allowed himself to be seduced by anyone except Mab.
Puck has always been fascinated by humans and human culture, following their advances in technology and ever-shifting mores with a rapt curiosity. Thus, he is remarkably up-to-date on modern human life, including current trends, fads and popular culture in general. He is still learning how to actually handle and use certain things himself, technology in particular, but overall he has a pretty decent familiarity with modern conveniences and their purposes.
» Other Notes: Being Unseelie by nature, Puck is definitely a night owl and prefers to rest while the sun is up. It's not that he can't function on a diurnal schedule—in fact, he can tolerate it better than many of his kind—but being made to do so will likely put him into a sour mood until he gets used to it. Even then, he won't be particularly thrilled by the idea and will still have difficulty getting up in the morning. He requires large amounts of caffeine before he can be awake and cheerful during the day.
He has a massive sweet tooth, and will put sugar or honey on just about anything. He takes his tea with copious amounts of milk and honey, and coffee with cream and sugar, until the taste of the original brew is almost unrecognizable.
It is also worth noting that he has a distinct iron sensitivity, though not a full-blown allergy. He can't eat iron-rich foods without getting indigestion, and will feel drained and achy if he spends much time in an environment containing significant amounts of iron.
He is fluent in English, Gaelic and Welsh.
For the most part, Puck is functionally asexual, but if he is to demonstrate actual interest of that nature, he's approximately a 2 on the Kinsey scale.
» Sample Journal: In all my years, never did I think I would actually get to be human. So fascinating! I finally get to use all those things I've been seeing for so long but never actually got to touch!
And the food! Oh, human ingenuity will never cease to fascinate me. Milkshakes! Toaster pastries. Donut sandwiches! Donut. Sandwiches. And steak! Oh, I know I shouldn't eat it, but surely just one won't kill me, will it? Just one?
I won't say I'm comfortable with mortality. I was never meant to die. But, if I am going to have to do it, then I am going to have a blast until that day comes!
» Sample Log: “By the way, your mother is visiting,” Puck said, “I take it she doesn't understand our true natures?”
“She does not,” Mab said, “And you are not to be the one to tell her, is that understood?”
“You have my word, my lady. She won't hear it from me,” Puck promised, and went to let the visitor in, a wide grin on his face. “Ah, Siobhan McKinley. Fashionably late, as usual. Please follow me; your daughter is expecting you.”
Siobhan's brown eyes widened at the strange young man. She'd never met him before, and, to her knowledge, Maeve didn't often speak of her to others, so how was it he knew that much about her? Puck, for his part, seemed cheerfully oblivious to the blonde woman's curiosity.
“Miss Windthorpe, your mother has arrived,” he announced as he led Siobhan in, and immediately resumed his usual position close by Mab's side.
“Thank you,” Mab said coolly, “Allow me to introduce Owen Robinson. He's part of my staff.”
“Always charmed to meet the mother of the great Maeve Windthorpe,” Puck said, his eyes glittering with amusement while Mab rolled hers.
“I'm sure you are. Now, if you'll excuse me, I was right in the middle of something. I'll be right back,” Mab said, moving back toward her office. Puck followed just couple of paces behind.
“Is there anything I can assist you with, Miss Windthorpe?” he asked.
“Not at this time. Behave. I'll return shortly,” Mab said before disappearing through the doorway.
“Of course,” Puck said, his smile becoming ever the more mischievous, as a slightly awkward silence threatened to descend. Siobhan admittedly had her curiosity about the young man, noting his attention to Maeve, and the almost puppy-like way he followed her.
"So... Owen, is it? What exactly is it that you do here?" Siobhan asked.
“I'm Miss Windthorpe's personal assistant, ma'am,” he answered, a distinct note of pride in his tone.
“I see. And just... how personal is the assistance?” she pressed. Last that Siobhan had known, Maeve had been rather firmly involved with Christopher Maddox. Where did this boy fit in? Puck immediately picked up on the subtlety of the question.
“Oh, I'm happy to provide service in any capacity she asks of me,” he answered with a roguish wink.
